No, not "never."  The folks at Human Computing don't always know about release date delays, so I suspect that they are dependent on CB users to submit updates/corrections for many of them (thus Mark's statement that "they get corrected over time").

It's how I get a sizeable portion of my submission points! 😁

  2. Yes, I can see the exported data (in both a text editor and a spreadsheet), and nothing looked out of the ordinary.  For what it's worth, I did try to limit the export to "personal" data, such as custom field, qty in stock, wanted, grade, etc.

If the rebuild doesn't help, i would suspect corruption on that database. The file menu has the export and import options; I would suggest exporting out your data fields that are important to you and importing into a fresh database as a final solution.

No bueno.  Not only did the rebuild not help, but exporting into a brand-new database didn't either.  I exported only a few fields (see list below), rebuilt all lists except for pictures, and updated content on the new database alone using Sidekick:

    • Title
    • Item #
    • Condition
    • Qty In Stock
    • Custom Field 1
    • Notes
    • Wanted
    • Price
    • Cost

One thing to note is that I cheated a bit with Sidekick:  I exported from the old database called "Database", created the new database called "New Database", imported into New Database, renamed "New Database" to "Database", and updated content in Database using Sidekick.  I'm not sure whether Sidekick works under the covers using file pointers (that would follow a rename) or it would use the filename.

  4. @Mark J. Castaneda,

The update just now finished running in Sidekick, and I was watching it. I have good news, good news, and bad news.  Updates to two of my databases were clean, but the third one still showed the error at the top of Sidekick.  That database ID is 236c2c0a-0dff-44ba-bbd9-362efc0937fe.  I'm pretty sure I'd done so, but I can try a full Rebuild Lists on it one more time; otherwise, I'm thinking there may be some corruption in that database?

Just about all lists I have seen do not consider leasing articles when considering the Order of names.  'El' is Spanish is an article and should not be the leading part of a sort order so 'El Dorado' should be sorted among the 'D's

I agree in general, but in this case (if it's what I'm thinking of), "El Dorado" is a proper name, in that it's the title of the movie this comic adapts.

Actually, this book is already double-listed in the database.  There is a note under the Red Lanterns title that "Issue #28 listed under the title Green Lantern/Red Lanterns #28".  And, indeed, there is a title Green Lantern/Red Lanterns in the database dedicated to handling this flipbook issue (it also contains a title note indicating "Serves as issue #28 for both Green Lantern (5th Series) & Red Lanterns".

But there is also apparently a listing for Green Lantern (5th series) #28 even though there is a title note for Green Lantern (5th series) stating that "Issue #28 listed under the title Green Lantern/Red Lanterns #28".  So it looks like Green Lantern (5th series) issue #28 should be deleted.

Unfortunately, I don't think that there is a way to handle this type of situation that would satisfy automated "collection hole" finders *and* not double count the flipbook issue.

Now that this topic has been brought up, is there any chance that we can set up an Eternal Warrior/Archer & Armstrong title to handle the similar flipbook situation there for EW #26 and A&A #26?

Thanks for the info, Gregory.  I was unaware of the combined title set up, and actually discovered the issue (pun intended) when my homegrown hole finder logged Red Lanterns as missing.  I'll have to put some thought into the implications.

My main question for @Mark J. Castaneda at this point is which is the preferable entry to use, the combined or the GL issue?

Afterwards, please e-mail us at support@comicbase.com once the 'Save to Cloud' option completes and our tech support team will take a closer look at your db file.

I save to cloud every Monday night, so the last backup would have been March 11.  Anything specific i should say or reference in the email?

  8. Apologies if this has been brought up before, but how should this book be handled in the database?  Red Lanterns 28 is the flipside of Green Lantern (5th Series) 28 https://atomicavenue.com/atomic/item/1131099/1/Green-Lantern-5th-Series-28.  On the one hand, it screws up the Red Lantern series numbering to leave it out (especially for any kind of automated hole processing), but on the other, I don't want to get 'double credit" on book value.  Any thoughts?

  9. I've been seeing some issues with Sidekick running a weekly content update.  I've got three databases that get updated, but I've been regularly seeing this problem:

    image.png.6f06fcc169fede21328b3d0975328a71.png

After it occurred last week, I updated the program to the latest available version (v24.0.0.1158) and made sure to rebuild lists (including artists, storylines, etc.), but it appeared again tonight.

    Any suggestions?

If you have not done this there is one (last?) possibility but it has some problems. It is to do a Find on column 'Date Modified' This should find any issues on a specific date or a Date Range. However, this is used if ANY thing is changed and not just added. If you add comics and make changes to other issues, all of them would get displayed. Worse, if you run a Weekly Update, there will be a LOT of issues modified.+

If you modify the search to only look for Qty in stock > 0, that should help filter out most everything but what was scanned in.

  11. There are two titles in the database for this title

According to the indicia, the first title (without the ', The') is the correct one, even though the second one has the cover pictures.

Don't know if this is related or not but they were going to be doing some work on the servers. May be a temporary problem.

I was having trouble submitting changes last night, but it was good today, so I think @Steven L. Dasinger is right; this sounds very much like a "server unavailable due to maintenance" kind of issue.

  13. Apologies if this has been brought up before (I didn't see anything with a quick search and I'm behind by a few weeks on livestreams), but why is there non-consecutive numbering on issues that just came out.  For example, Blue Beetle (7th series) had the issues just out this week as 2/A, 2/C, and 2/D and no 2/B (which I guess answers Hamlet's question... 😁)  The picture below illustrates what I'm referring to (the UPCs match, meaning there is 76194138175600211, 76194138175600231, and 76194138175600241, but not 76194138175600221).

If there's a reason, I'd like to know.  I guess I can live with it, but it's killing my OCD.

    Much obliged.

I bought a copy this week, but neither it nor its variants have been added to CB. I know that the original series was moved to magazines. This however, is a collection of six comic stories about superheroes celebrating sixty years of the Marvel Age of Comics. So any suggestions how should I enter this?

You're timing is fantastic!  I was about to ask the same thing.

When you say <first name> do you mean a person's given name?  And <last name> do you mean their family name?  But what about those creators who have their family name first?  In some countries, that's how it's done vs the family name last.

Whichever is appropriate.  Honestly, I didn't put that much thought into it.  <Given name> <Family name> is the format for most of the creators in the database, but there's nothing stopping the reverse order if that's what's called for.

All that being said, I'm fine with whatever the editors decide (it may not be my preferred solution, but that doesn't make it wrong).

In the case of this creator, the name is listed so many ways it gets confusing. We've decided to list her as Lesley “Leirix” Li

If it's not already too late, I'd really love to standardize on <first name> <last name> and put any nicknames in the item description (if appropriate), but I defer to the editors' decisions.

  17. Apologies if this has been brought up before and I missed it:  what's the policy on artists and their nicknames?  I've seen a lot of nicknames used in artist credits that I've been correcting when I see them (keeping the nickname in the item description), but I don't want to waste time (mine or the editors) if that's not the policy.  For example, correcting Lesley "Leirix" Li to be Lesley Li  and making sure the credits read Cover by Lesley "Leirix" Li.

Can someone provide some guidance?  Should I keep making these corrections?

    Thanks.

  18. This one-shot is really Archie and Friends (2nd Series) issue 16 as indicated by the indicia.  I suspect this title is similar to B&V Friends Forever in that the issues each have a different "title" on the cover.  There may several more Archie and Friends "titles" that should be moved under this title.

This looks like a job for... Item Title Field! 😁

  19. It seems the entries for the new Titans (5th Series) and it's variants are all messed up.  I'm not about to try to guess what issue numbers should be what, so I'm listing them hear for editorial to determine what needs to be corrected

The variant cover artists in the issue are listed as

    • Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair
    • Jen Bartel
    • Bruno Redondo
    • Dan Mora
    • Simone Di Meo

However, the following table shows what I have in my copy of the database (having updated contents today):

    Num. UPC                             Item Description

    1/A               76194138022300111
1/B               76194138022300191 The 616 Comics Variant Cover by Nathan Szerdy
