  1. So, I return from vacation to see an email in my inbox advertising a Spring Sale, with "Upgrades" to the Archive edition for $109.95. OK, my express edition updating ends the end of the month, so I think I'll upgrade to get the better version with all the comic covers included. So, add it to my cart, and when I go to check out, the price is the normal price, not the advertised sale price for the upgrade. What the H--- is going on?
  2. I also entered "Celebrated Cases of Dick Tracy 1931-1951, The" which is a 1990 reprint of a 1970 book (I'm sure related to the movie coming out at that time.) Content pages scan attached. Also mostly reprints of strips, rather than text. I entered "Miss Buxley: Sexism in Beetle Bailey?" as well. I think that should remain a book. While most pages have a strip reprint, it's more about the commentary below the strips on each page than the reprints. (All these books I found remaindered, mostly in the '80s and '90s that I'm finally entering. I miss the real Barnes & Noble Annex on 5th and (I think) 17th in NYC. Found many books there over the years.) CelebratedCasesofDickTracy-Contents.pdf
  3. I added "Dick Tracy's Fiendish Foes!". Here's the contents page scan. Mostly strip reprints other than an 20 page interview with Chester Gould by Max Allan Collins. I put it in as a book; I thought only "comics" were comics, not "comic strips". 🙂 DickTracysFiendishFoes-Contents.pdf
  4. Thanks, Gregory. I think we're in general agreement. The relatively straight-foward collections make sense under the original single-issue title. It's the relatively rare ones where there's multiple reprint editions of the same issues where it gets complicated. To pick two DC titles, Watchmen and Sandman must be pains in the ... to keep track of! IF/when I find others that I think are mis-labeled, how best to send the info? I tried to send an email using the message function at the top of this page, but got a bounce-back saying that "support @ ..." wasn't able to receive emails. IS it best to try through the forum feature, or via "standard" email?
  5. Thanks for the quick reply (on this and my "mass change - cost" question.) Yes, I have the Express Edition, which explains the no-export feature. I will use my largest database as the "base" file (after backing up, of course.) I've adjusted columns already in setup to view what I want. For my cost field adjustment task, I'll definitely need either/both Cover and Street Dates. Am I correct that anything I import in the cost field will override what's already in the database? And thanks for the reminder about not saving as a CSV. Forgot that titles might have a comma in them in addition to spaces, so Tab-separated is needed. (I'm going to use the spreadsheet first to make some of the changes I want, in particular the "cost".)
  6. (Last inquiry for the day, I promise! 🙂 ) I would like to do a mass change for "cost" based on the date. Specifically, my cost for comics was .7 of cover price from 1985-1990, and .75 from 1991-2020 (I worked in a comics store for the first period and got an employee discount and then was given a generous discount for the second period after quitting.) I've done a mass change for individual titles, but that would take a long time doing each title separately. The "Brute Force" method I thought of was to export (or copy/paste) the collection to a spreadsheet, sort by street date (or more likely cover date) and use a formula for the cost for each range (at the end, change the formula to a value) and then import to a new database. Seems there must be an easier way of doing this within the database. I also worry about losing some data along the way exporting/importing.
  7. Sorry to open a two year old thread, but I want to do the same thing (I originally divided my entries into five different databases based primarily on publisher). However, I do not see an "export" command under file. I'm guessing that it was removed when the program was upgraded from 32 to 64 bit. Will it work to use Items/Find "My Comics", and copy/paste the results to a spreadsheet and save to CSV (manually including a title row with field names)? I note that the File/Import command only allows files with the "*.txt" extension, so I'm hoping/guessing that I can save the CSV file as a text file and it'll work the same.
  8. Yes, I own them, and yes, I endorse separate title listing rather than under the original/main Justice League of America title. The cover scans are above, would you want a back cover scan as well to include the UPC code? (although I typed those in above as well.) At a minimum, Bk 3 is listed twice, once under the original title, and once under the Bronze Age Omnibus listing. I think if you have a reprint 30+ years after the original book ends, it needs a separate listing. I note that you don't list other omnibuses under the original title - at least the ones I own or found, such as Batman, Superman, New Teen Titans. I'll also mention that the omnibuses typically collect from multiple series (hence the title) so that only listing under one title can be mis-leading. I prefer listing everything according to its "official" title, and my spreadsheet (that I'm slowing entering into our database) includes title and volume number to separate things. I even list "Annual" and "Special" separately as well. I do acknowlege that I'm probably in a small minority on this, as the preference is likely a smaller list of titles. (I also recognize that using a database with a single unique field doesn't allow that; listing "2nd series" gets around that, although listing "mini-series" instead of the series can be confusing for some titles.) Reprint books, in particular, are tricky. If it's a TPB of a mini-series, it makes sense to group it with the original title. But for bigger titles, with multiple collections, separate titles I think is easier, as it gets harder to list them under one title. As an example, I recently purchased "The Sandman: The Deluxe Edition" Books one-five. I entered them as a new series, but got a 'View unrecognized items' when did an update and clicked on the link. I finally found them under the main title as "Collector Set", since "Deluxe" had already been taken for previous books. Nowhere was the book title actually listed. The new "Item Title" field will help, for sure. Sorry to ramble on here, just mentioning a few things I've thought about since I've been entering more of my collection.
  9. Not the same books, or more accurately the information is wrong. Bronze Age Omnibus #1 (As opposed to the paperback one that leaves out "Omnibus") reprints 77-113, #2 reprints 114-146, and #3, which you list separately (although without the detailed notes) collects Justice League of America #147-182, Super-Team Family #11-14, DC Special #27, DCSpecial Series #6, Secret Society of Super-Villans #15, DCComics Presents #17. Under the original Justice League of America title, Bk 1 HC is 184-186, 192-194, and is the George Perez edition of the DC Library. Number 2 at leat matches the full description and ISBN. UPC Book 1 - 978140126806059999 UPS Book 2 - 978140127784759999 Book 1 matches despite the erroneous description, book 2 does not (has 847 instead of 857 before 59999.) I did enter the wrong cover price when submitting; it's 99.99 not 125. It would help us collectors if you could be consistent with these reprint books, especially the ominbuses that have their own series. You list the silver age separately (actually twice, since the first book had a reprint; not sure why that wasn't 1-2 instead of 2nd series) but only the third Bronze Age book? Plenty of other examples as well.
  10. Didn't find the first and second issues of "Justice League of America: The Bronze Age Omnibus"; I've submitted them through the database. I'm guessing that it was thought that issue 3 was a continuation of the Silver Age Omnibus numbering, but it is a separate title/issue. Just mentioning this here in case the submittal was dismissed because it was thought it was a continuation of the Silver Age. I've included cover scans here (and also submitted via the database.)
  11. Been reviewing my book collection, it appears that the book "Legends of the Dark Knight: Steve Englehart" was solicited but cancelled, and when re-solicited the title changed to "Tales of the Batman: Steve Englehart". You have both listed with the same ISBN, I believe the "Dark Knight" version does not exist.
  12. While I don't agree with it in this case, I understand the logic behind the decision. I'm looking in my "TPB-HC" database (I've separated my collection for now into five databases), and it seems there's dual entries for some, such as the Batman: Cover to Cover book. Do I have a "comic book" entry because I had entered it previously (or perhaps manually entered a new item - I don't remember.)? I'm pretty sure I had Who's Who in my comic inventory, and the qty changed from 1 to zero after the long update. Other questions on "how to", I'll shift to the technical forum for those when I'm ready. Thanks for the quick reply.
  13. Just updated to 2022 after a year's break. I'm curious about this subject as well (regarding how ComicBase handles them.) I had a couple of titles that apparently changed from "Comic Book" to "Magazine" and my previous inventory appears to have been deleted in the change. One specific group of titles is the DC Who's Who from the '80s (Who’s Who: The Definitive Directory of the DC Universe) and related titles (Star Trek and Legion.) The ones from 1984-1988 were comic books, while the 1992 and 1993 updates were "loose-Leaf Format". I understand the later ones being differentiated from comics, but not the original series. (The same thing happened to the Marvel Handbook versions.) It doesn't look like a lot Likewise, books vs. comics. The Who's Who omnibus is listed as a book, while it reprints comics (at least I'll call them comics.) But the Complete Chester Gould's Dick Tracy, which collects comic strips, is a comic book. I understand if the first matched the conversion from comic to magazine. Are all comic strip collections comic books? (Such as the Complete Calvin and Hobbes?) Just trying to understand as I check/re-enter my collection. I'm sure I'll have more questions/inquiries as I have more time to spend on this now. (The benefits to me, and the detriments to you, of my retirement! 🙂 ) (Sorry, rambling a bit. From what I can tell, the overall inventory is greatly enhanced and will allow me to enter a lot more. Not sure why there's 5000 entries for the New York Times, though.)
