  1. Sometimes if there is a server issue at HC's end of things you can get experiences like you describe. I just did a quick "Find Item" on my mobile app and had no issues, but that is several hours after your post. Are you still seeing the same problem?
  2. The DLX variation for those periodical issues should be used only in cases where there is also a non-deluxe version. (The "Deluxe" had glossy paper and a slightly higher price; the non-Deluxe versions had non-glossy paper.) The presence of "Deluxe" on the covers of individual Marvel comics from that time period do not necessarily mean that there was a non-deluxe version published. In some cases, there was but in some cases there was not. So before you submit a DLX variant for any of those issues, please verify that a non-Deluxe version of that issue was indeed published. Also a reminder that the current and long-standing CB policy is that Direct Market and Newsstand variants are not tracked in the database unless there is a difference such as cover price, paper stock, etc. (A notation of "Newsstand" or "Direct Market" in the UPC box is, in the absence of other differences, not enough for CB to list the items as separate variants.)
  3. DC has cancelled the following items: Batman: The Court of Owls Saga Essential Edition #1/HC Batman: His Greatest Mysteries Wonder Woman: Blood and Guts deluxe hardcover (I can't find this one in the database, but I am fairly sure that it was supposed to collect issues #1-12 of this series)
  4. Sounds good, thanks. Next time I am entering things into my database I will add in #3/A.
  5. They wanted to juice up the launch of the "Spider Island" arc. Also, #666 is "the mark of the beast" so what better way to commemorate the occasion than with excessive variant issues (which are the spawn of the devil, as we all know)?
  6. I think that it ended up as Fables Book #22.
  7. The issues listed for the comic title Sex and Violence need some standardization. This is a series of anthology graphic novels from Jimmy Palmiotti's Paperfilms outfit, and they are all Kickstarter products. The first two volumes have been out for a while, the third was recently mailed out to backers. The first volume is listed in the database as #1/A and #1/B (there were two different covers), but the second volume is listed as Book #2 and Book #2/A. So there is a lack of standardization in how these items are getting listed. These should be listed as one of the following (pick one): #1/A, #1/B, #2/A, and #2/B #1, #1/A, #2, #2/A Book #1/A, Book #1/B, Book #2/A, Book #2/B Book #1, Book #1/A, Book #2, Book #2/A Personally, I don't care which of the four you pick. But once that is done and the database gets corrected, I can go ahead and enter in the information for the third volume. (No point in me doing it now since I don't know if my copy should be #3, Book #3, #3/A, or Book #3/A). Also, the date and cover price for the first volume were incorrect. I submitted corrections to these from my database. You'll want to make sure that those changes in included however the items under this title get revised.
  8. Planet Hulk: Gladiator Guidebook is listed in the database as a book. It is a comic.
  9. The database lists Art of Walter Simonson as a book title. Even though the title says "Art of" the contents are really all DC comic stories drawn by Simonson. This item should be moved back to comics.
  10. Several items need attention this week: • This week's update included the following two books: Kolchak and the Night Stalkers: Partners in Crime Kolchak and the Nightstalkers: The Faceless God Note that each of these titles handles "Night Stalkers" differently... one of them treats it as two words, one of them treats it as a single word. That seems odd to me. Can anybody verify that both of these titles are correct? • Also added was a comic title Ed Hannigan: Covered. This item is already listed as a book title. One of the two titles should be deleted. I *think* that the contents were all art but that it had stapled comic format construction. I will have to see if I can locate my copy. • The comic title Ka-zar the Savage Omnibus was added. This item reprints the full Ka-Zar the Savage comic series and no issues from any other title, so this really should be listed under the existing title. If for some reason the omnibus does merit its own separate title, the "Z" should be capitalized since that seems to be the standard way that ComicBase handles hyphenated names. • The new comic title Rock Hardson (Tim Goodyear's...) doesn't appear to have the appropriate type of apostrophe in its title.
  11. Here is something that should be corrected... although it is in the database program itself and not any of the items in the database. When doing the "Rebuild Lists" function, the pop-up window includes the following option: "Item information: Verifies item fields, reculates totals, and removes any duplicate notes and credits" That should, of course, be recalculate.
  12. Have you carried out a "Rebuild Lists" operation lately? Doing this can resolve a number of problems where specific pieces of data in your database aren't properly retrieved. EDITED TO ADD: And I see that Steven already suggested that
  13. The Grendel item was discussed over in this thread. The consensus from the discussion seemed to be that it was a book but was admittedly borderline given the circumstances that @Michael E. Jacobson outline over in that thread and that @Steven L. Dasinger described above. I'm used to thinking about it as a comic b/c it was a promotional item for a comic series, but I can see the argument as to why it should be under the book category.
  14. I am guessing that's because Annual #3 was also listed under the Saga of the Swamp Thing title. (I am assuming that it was a case of duplication rather than a case of the issue being moved.) However, the date for that issue should be updated to 1987, I think... 1985 is definitely not correct on that Annual. So I think a case can be made that a better home for that issue would be under the Swamp Thing (2nd series) title which starts in 1986. But maybe the indicia for that Annual includes the "Saga of..." nomenclature? I will have to dig out my copy to check.
  15. Fully agree! It really looks to me like some HC intern or automated program was unleashed on the database one day and was over-zealous in what got moved from comics to books. Just look at all of the items mentioned on these boards that have had to be moved back into comics!
  16. Marvel's launch of their new Predator comic has been delayed. There is some speculation that is because the original movie's screenwriters are trying to recapture the rights. Whatever the reason, apparently all of the Marvel vs. Predator variant covers have been cancelled. At least some of these are in the database, and should be removed: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 65 CORY SMITH PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210611 IMMORTAL HULK 46 KEOWN PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210635 STRANGE ACADEMY 10 RON LIM PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210644 BLACK CAT 6 MAYHEW PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210619 FANTASTIC FOUR 32 SUPERLOG PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210545 GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 14 SPROUSE PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210627 HEROES REBORN 2 GIST PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210513 SPIDER-WOMAN 12 RYP PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210617 AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 66 DELL'OTTO PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210615 CHAMPIONS 7 RAMOS PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210646 DAREDEVIL 30 SIENKIEWICZ PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210632 THE MIGHTY VALKYRIES 2 JUNGGEUN YOON PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210569 WOLVERINE 12 HOTZ PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210596 BLACK WIDOW 7 ANDOLFO PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210630 MILES MORALES: SPIDER-MAN 26 DE LULIS PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210622 X-MEN 20 STOKOE PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) MAR210600 IRON MAN ANNUAL 1 BENNETT PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) APR210732 CAPTAIN AMERICA 30 COELLO PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) APR210915 CAPTAIN MARVEL 29 NORD PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) APR210910 THOR 15 RAHZZAH PREDATOR VARIANT (WDC) APR210933 Presumably those covers will turn up at some later point in time to coincide with the new launch date for Marvel's Predator series if and when that comes to pass. It might be worth considering whether or not to pull the Predator (Marvel) title at this time as well... or, at the very least, make a note to revisit that title in a few months if it isn't resolicited for October or November release. My understanding is that orders for Marvel's Predator Omnibus has been cancelled, presumably to be resolicited at a later time. I'm not seeing that item in the database at this time, so there might not be anything to do for follow-up on that item at this time.
  17. One of the items listed under the title Echoes: The Drawings of Michael William Kaluta is TPB Limited Edition. The notes indicate that this item is a hardcover, so I think it should be changed to HC Limited Edition.
  18. The database lists All-New Iron Manual as a book. This title is actually a comic.
  19. After you run a content update on your database, there is a link on your pop-up window (the same one that reports collection value) for seeing items that are in your database but which were not recognized during the update. If the content of your database is already up to date, you can "force" the update by holding down the shift key while selecting the "Check for updates" menu item.
  20. Just now I was able to get my database to check for updates without requesting login credentials. It also appears that the AA website is back up. So presumably things are normal again.
  21. Today when I ask ComicBase to check for updates, it asks for a login and is unable to do so (an error eventually comes up saying that "a task has been cancelled"). Also, the Atomic Avenue site is unreachable (according to this post, it has been that way since yesterday). Are these issues related? Any estimates as to when things will return to normal?
  22. Several weeks ago I submitted issues of On Tap, The Malt Advocate, and The Wine Advocate to the database. All of the issues that I submitted were accepted, but the contents inside the title description field for some reason were not. The following Title Description information should be added for these titles: On Tap: title changes to The Malt Advocate as of vol. 3 #1 The Malt Advocate: was formerly On Tap; becomes the Whisky Advocate in 2011 The Wine Advocate: was formerly The Baltimore-Washington Wine Advocate; becomes a digital-only publication in 2013
  23. The database lists Star Trek: The Next Generation Annual #1 (2nd print) and Star Trek: The Next Generation: The Gift. These are the same item, so one of the listings needs to be deleted.
  24. Thanks for this post, IMO this has been a source of confusion! Not only that, but HC made TPB the *default* format, so the ambiguous format ends up being used the most often, regardless as to whether it is the correct format.
