Fred Slota Posted May 1 Posted May 1 Watched while applying a content update today, andeventually had a window with a message and "progress" bar. Downloading new comic book cover image, xxx/1266 This updating message was alternating with some other message that I could not read clearly, and the "progress" bar was flickering and barely progressing as images were being downloaded, eventually reaching about 20% until the last few were being downloaded. A bad progress bar is worse than no progress bar.

Fred Slota Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 Interesting... My "progress" bar observation was based on having just performed a "Check for Updates" this afternoon, and it did not suggest a program update first. Huh, it seems my "Check for interim updates" had been turned off. Double Huh, the last item listed in the features list is "Upgrading to a new interim build no longer resets your windows settings." Updating now. Will have to see with the next content update if the "progress" bar issue has progressed...
Steven L. Dasinger Posted May 1 Posted May 1 If you go to Setup->Preferences, you can check ' Check for interim updates'. This will allow you to get updates as they are added (most of the time this works with no problem but there was a stretch a few weeks back when Pete was making some involved changes that it did have some bad effects (fixed a couple of days later)).
Fred Slota Posted May 1 Author Posted May 1 Just did an update to v25.6.3.4076. In the last 10 minutes, there is apparently now an update to 25.6.3.4080.
Fred Slota Posted May 4 Author Posted May 4 And, applied an update to v25.6.3.4085 before applying a new content update. Still stuttering, barely-filling 'progress' bar when "downloading new comic book cover images xxx/1812. Also noticed the window title read "0% of Progress" throughout the whole process. I have a guess of what's happening. I think the bar is zeroing at the start of each new image download and trying to animate to the current progress percentage, but if the next image downloads quickly, then it re-zeroes having barely animated. I think I noticed a few times when an image took a little longer to finish and the next one start, and the progress bar seemed to animate further along before being re-zeroed.
Steven L. Dasinger Posted May 4 Posted May 4 I agree that is what is happening. To test, I created a new database, changed the Pictures file location to the default (mine are in a different location), started the content updated and did a screen recording just before the cover download process. What I observed in the recording (which I could stop and rewind) is: After the issue processing of the Content Update process, it started the cover downloads. Each type has alternating text at the top of the window of 'Downloading x / xxxx' and 'Downloading new 'type' cover images: x / xxxx' (where x is an incrementing number staring with 1, xxxx is the total number of covers per type, and 'type' one of Book, Comic book, or Magazine (don't have newspapers to process). Downloading x / 115 Downloading new book cover images: x/115 Downloading x / 3190 Downloading new comic book cover images: x/3190 Downloading x / 81 Downloading new magazine cover images: x/81 While processing it mostly alternated between the pair of text per type except, occasionally, the incrementing number would increase without showing the other (longer) text. For the most part, the progress bar is barely visible, a little long most of the time, long some of the time, and most all the way (75 to 80 percent?). Instead of being cumulative for each cover downloading (increasing from 0 to 100 percent for either each type or for all types), the green progress bar is displayed for each individual downloaded cover. The smaller the cover the smaller the green progress bar. The larger the cover the longer the green progress bar. PS Not sure why the two sets of text are needed as it causes a 'strobing effect' which is difficult to view.
Fred Slota Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 (edited) Updated to 25.6.3.4438 Flickering never-filling progress bar for downloading comic book cover images still there. Edited May 23 by Fred Slota
Fred Slota Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 Last week, I don't think it downloaded any covers. This week, upgraded to v25.6.3.4511 and the progress bar for cover downloads was non-flickering and progressed. Thank you.
