October 3, 2025Oct 3 i received the scanner a couple weeks ago and finally got to use it. i tried to use the included page 'setting up your comicbase MK2 wireless barcode scanner', but the scanner just refuses to scan the easy setup barcodes. it will read SOME of the comic barcodes, but half it refuses and some it brings up the wrong book. i think this is because i haven't been able to get it to enable the supplementals. when i try to scan those setup barcodes it gives me two angry beeps and does nothing. i can scan the volume codes and it works, but not the setup codes i need. i downloaded the full 'users manual', only to find out it's nearly useless unless you actually programmed the darned thing. event the factory reset code does not work.
October 3, 2025Oct 3 Attached the setup sheet that should work with the MK2. Try printing and setting up with it. Also helps to have the scanner connected with the USB cord so its adequately powered for initial programming (or charged for 2-3hrs). You can also try another USB port on your computer to plug into (not all USB ports have full power running through them). If you have still trouble, please reach out to our support team directly at support@comicbase.com OR 408-266-6883 ext 403 CB_Wireless_Scanner_Mk2_Easy_Setup_2025.pdf

October 3, 2025Oct 3 suggestion from shipping dept that may help: If the scanner is adequately charged there's is no need for it be connected to your computer. Just have the USB receiver/dongle connected to your computer. Hit the trigger to turn on the scanner. Take note of the light on top of the scanner. If it's blue then it's properly paired to the USB receiver. If its green light, its not connected. (Try a different USB port or different computer if available to get it paired). Scanner should have came with a small manual from the manufacturer with a factory setup code. Start by scanning that code to get to a proper starting state. Once its paired, refer to our setup sheet and scan the Easy Setup codes top to bottom. (See my previous reply if you need it) when scanning, helps to scan not too far from a code (about 5 inches) As you scan a specific setup code, use your other hand or a piece of paper to cover up other codes close by so nothing interferes as you set up. Finally, hop into ComicBase and try scanning in comic barcodes and see if the full number project. *If none of the above help, message our support team at support@comicbase.com. They can setup a return slip if needed to see if you got a faulty scanner.

I made certain to do all that, and tried different usb ports, but the scanner just gives 2 angry beeps and nada on all the linear barcodes for the set up. i even found the digital barcode for resetting to factory and that took, then i tried again, still 2 angry beeps and nothing. I am thinking the scanner is defective? even scanning the battery barcode only brings up in notepad "Battery:" and nothing more.
October 4, 2025Oct 4 Author update: i tried changing the beep volume with the digital barcode and it worked, while it failed using the linear barcode. apparently it's picky. Edited October 4, 2025Oct 4 by William Bower
October 4, 2025Oct 4 Not sure if this will help but... When I scan the Battery Level barcode, I also just get 'Battery:'. (I 'think' it showed a value when I first got it but I can't be sure.) I have noticed when I scan comic barcodes, sometimes it doesn't get the supplemental (last 5). By moving the scanner from right to left while scanning, it would get the supplement. Even though the green dot appeared to be centered when it missed the supplemental, moving from right to left until it beeps then picks up the supplemental for the same UPC. I have also had success getting the supplemental (for those that didn't get picked up normally by turning the scanner upside down while scanning. Since the setup barcodes don't appear to have supplement values, this may not make any different. Just passing on my experiences. PS I just plugged my scanner in and when I test Battery Level, I get 'Battery Level: 100%' (I was doing this as a test and not because it needed it which is why it has 100%'.

October 6, 2025Oct 6 email support@comicbase.com and let them know you need a return label for the troublesome scanner. They inspect it further for you (they'll attempt to program it OR send out a working replacement).
October 19, 2025Oct 19 I feel your pain. I upgraded to the wireless last year, and I have my entire collection scanned in with no issue. However, every label printed, neither the wired or wireless will scan any of the printed out Dymo label barcodes. I have had no success getting it to work. SO for me take a book out of my collection and find it in the DBase I have to print out the label with the code under the barcode. I thought it was my system and reloaded it onto my laptop but knew that would do anything because i get no signal/beep when I attempt to scan the barcode that i printed out.
October 19, 2025Oct 19 I have the Mk2 wireless scanner. I generated a preview of an Identification Report that has the barcode. With that Preview on the screen, I was able to successfully scan it into Notepad and it display the correct information. NOTE: I did NOT print it out. It may theoretically be possible that the Dymo printed barcode is too small to scan but I have nothing with which to test that with.
May 12May 12 I couldn't get the wireless scanner dongle to be recognized at all. I installed COMICBASE on WS2022, neither wired scanning or wireless works. I plugged the dongle into my win11 machine and still nothing. Not sure what to try now. Ill try another machine tomorrow.

Also try different USB ports on your computer. the 'Easy Setup' section of the setup sheet should be done first. Setup is easier in a wired state. May 12May 12 I did at least 2 Tried all USB and 2 computers tried that also it just beeps but doesn't make any changes. I tried the volume and it just beeps same volume so im not sure how many times to scan the same easy set up doc
May 12May 12 ok the dongle seems pointless at this point. It comes up as USB Composite Device. I figured it would bridge the gap on machines that dont have built in Bluetooth. I was able to test it on a machine that does have built in bluetooth. You have to: 1) turn on bluetooth on your machine 2) hold trigger on scanner down to enter bluetooth pairing. 3) windows recognizes it an installs 4) Scan barcodes on easy set up sheet. On computers with no bluetooth natively the dongle does nothing at all Im not sure why that is. So now im stuck as the machine Comic Base is on is not native bluetooth.

Using the label ID printout at least gives you a nomenclature to type back in if you're looking to bring back up a title where the barcode isn't on the front, so you don't have to open and slide up the backing board. But a lot of my Michael Tuner collection doesn't have a barcode on the front or back. One day i'll resolve the label issue. When comparing the barcode on the cover to the one it prints out, they look nothing alike.

The barcode that CB prints on the label is one generated internally by CB.It consists of the letter A (if a Book), B (if a Comic Book), C (if a Magazine) or D (if it is a newspaper), the internal unique identifier for the issue and the letter D.
