Find by Title Is Too Exact in the App

Featured Replies

I appreciate the various improvements in the app, but the search field (Find Items by Title) has become more difficult to use because it demands exact--and I mean exact--matches to titles, aside from capitalization. For example, the colon is required when looking for a title like Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow or Avengers: Armageddon. Given the haphazard way in which colons are used by publishers (sometimes on the cover but not in the indicia, and vice versa), and the occasional discrepancy with how they are implemented in ComicBase, this makes searching a chore. Consider also a title like Avengers, The: When Ultron Attacks. You have to enter "Avengers, The: When" for a match. If you type "Avengers: When", which seems logical, you won't get anything. As with colons, it's hard to know when the word "The" is considered part of the title--it might be on the cover and not in the indicia, or vice versa, and then the ComicBase title might not even match exactly.

Worse yet are the apostrophes. I only know how to type one kind of apostrophe on my phone, and it apparently doesn't match the exact type of apostrophe used in ComicBase titles. If I type "Man's Best" I won't get anything because that apostrophe doesn't match the exact apostrophe in the ComicBase title. Nor will it match if I try omitting the apostrophe. It is literally impossible, as far as I know, for me to enter on my phone the kind of apostrophe that would match what ComicBase wants--or if it is possible, it's more cumbersome.

The app wasn't always so nitpicky. The Find function in the program on the computer is also not so nitpicky. As in the program, partial titles would be useful for searching in the app. "Herickticks" is much easier to type on a phone than "Rick and Morty Presents: Herickticks".

Can the app be changed to be more friendly to inexact and partial searches?
