Gregory Hecht Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Can we get a definitive ruling on whether IDW's Artist Editions, Artist's Editions, Artisan Editions, and Artifact Editions (and similar books from other publishers) should be catalogued in the Book or Comics category? I *thought* that Pete indicated in one of the Livestreams that they should be considered Books (but I might be totally misremembering that). The database currently has some of these listed as Comics and some of them listed as Books.
Gregory Hecht Posted July 25, 2021 Author Posted July 25, 2021 <tapping on microphone> Hello? Is this thing on?
Mark J. Castaneda Posted July 26, 2021 Posted July 26, 2021 if the majority of the contents are comic strips then they should stay in 'Comics' Unfortunately we don't have in-house copies to confirm; anyone own some to confirm the contents? We can then officially move them to the proper media category afterwards.
Doug MedicAR Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 I don't personally own any of these but in looking around, I found this site online. As I strongly suspected, it is primarily comics shot from the original art. So technically, "comics."
Mark J. Castaneda Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 found YouTube reviews showing off some of these books and they look to be comic strip focused...looks like they should go into 'comics' We'll be shifting any titles in 'books' over to 'comics' with the upcoming content update. If you notice any title we might have missed drop a message on this thread and we'll adjust.
Gregory Hecht Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 The recently published E.C. Covers: Artist's Edition is currently listed in the database as a Book. This should be changed to Comic as per the discussion above. (The cover price also needs to be changed to $150; that change I submitted a couple of days ago from my database.)
Steven L. Dasinger Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I just looked inside the first few pages of E.C. Covers: Artist's Edition. (https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/676108/ec-covers-artists-edition-by-scott-dunbier/)Looks like a book to me. It appears all it is are single page original artwork for various E.C. comics. No comic story content.
Gregory Hecht Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 I get that b/c all of the artwork reproductions of are comic book covers. But having said that, it makes more sense to me to have all of the Artist's/Artisan editions in either the book category or the comic category.
Steven L. Dasinger Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Difference of opinion, I guess. I have one of these for Elfquest but it reproduces the original art for the entire first 4 or 5 issues. In this case it would be in Comic books (as it reproduces the entire story). For this one, it is just a 'pin-up' type of illustrations which happen to be covers. There is no story content. This would be no different from any other 'art book' in the Books category. But, HC can place it where ever they think best as it really doesn't matter to me. (just trying to keep straight the parameters which determine Book/Comic Book/Magazine type.)
