  1. What version of CB are you using?

A new version (v3599) was just posted today.

Until this version, using File Tools->Rebuild lists and checking the box regarding pictures actually didn't work.  This have been fixed with the newest version.

I have downloaded / installed this and am currently running the process which will take a LONG time. How long depends on where you pictures are located and how many you have. I have mine on an M2 drive which should run faster than if on a Solid State Drive which should be faster than on a regular hard drive.

Once this has completed, the various Picture columns 'should' be updated and then your Finds should work (at least I hope so...).

  2. I believe HC doesn't have a problem with installing CB on two computer (home and laptop) but they will have to let you know that (I think the question has come up before).

As for the app, I don't think it allows you to access you home computer database directly.  You have to save a copy (or a report?) to the cloud and then the app reads that, I think.

Never having done this, I will let other explain in more detail and how to do this.

  4. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.

To me, Cost is what I Paid for an Issue.  I don't own it, then the Cost is 0.00.

If I ever change Qty to 1 or more then Cost would be some value.

If you handle cost differently, then that is your choice.  I will just have to set discount to Zero to get the Cost to act the way I expect.

  5. Except, it isn't behaving the way it should. Any new Item added that has a Qty of 0 should have a Cost of 0.00.

Since these appear to be newly entered Items, with Qty = 0, the Cost should be 0.00, but the Update is setting it to Cover Price  * Discount % for every new item the update adds to the database.

Cost should only be set if Qty is set to 1 (or more).

  6. It isn't really anything we do. It is what the program does. This is probably with the weekly update.

    From last weeks update log:

    New Magazines:

    007 Magazine Omnibus 4

If you go to 007 Magazine Omnibus, Item #'s 1, 2, and 3 all have a Cost of 0.00.
But, the newly added Item #4 has a Cost of 23.59.

This was added by the weekly update and not me. Randomly checking other New Magazine Item #'s, most have a Cost value set other than 0.00. The few that don't may have been moved from Comic Books instead of added as new (at a guess).

Also notice that 1, 2, and 3 were Modified prior to CB 2020.

PS The same thing is happening for Books and Comic Books.

  7. Here is an example (although this is the case for most, if not all, of the Magazines).

The Red circle shows Qty 0.

The Blue circle shows the Price (what it is currently worth).

The Black circle shows the item #'s 'Cost' me 1.80 and 2.25 for ! and 2, respectively.

But, since I never bought them, the Cost should be 0.00 and NOT the Cover price * the Discount set in preferences.

This is true for Books and Comic Books (although only for newer (i.e. updated) Comic Books), I think.

  8. Not sure about the freezing part but for the 'Cannot run 2 databases at once' part...

Open Task manager, find the ComicBase 2020 (32 bit) app, right click on it and select End Task from the pop-up menu (or high-light it then click the End Task button at the bottom).

This will terminate the already running process and allow you to (attempt) restating CB.

Before restarting CB, if you don't have the latest version (v20.0.2.3433), I would download and install it.  It may help.

PS when I installed this version, when I opened CB, it was delayed while it did something regarding Items (can't recall exact message) but it had a progress bar and, even though it seemed to not be moving at times, it eventually finished and opened CB.

  9. Rename All (TPB 1.jpg - TPB 352.jpg) TPB x.jpg to x.jpg (where X is the number. ex: TPB 1.jpg to 1.jpg)

  10. I think this is a "Feature" and I am not sure it is a good idea.

If you a Find for last weeks new items in Comic Books, All ha a Cost entered (even if Qty is 0). The only ones that don't are ones that have a Cover prices of 0.00.) So it isn't just Magazines (or Books).

If it is a Feature, what I am about to suggest may not last past the next update (and I would try on a copy of your database, just to be safe). And this will affect all items in a section (Magazines, Books, or Comic Books).

Select menu item Items-><Mass Change (or CTRL + M)

Make sure the drop-down box in top left corner is set to Magazines.

Use Change drop-down box to select Cost.

Click Radio button next to Value and then type in 0.00 in the box.

At this point you can click the Apply To radio button for All Titles to get everything or Selected Titles to then select various Titles.

Once ready, click Make Changes.  Note: There will NOT be any Undo for this (hence the 'work with a copy warning I mentioned while testing to see if this does what you want).

Again, the next update MAY set them all back OR set any new ones to have a Cost value other than 0.00.

I am with you in that, if you don't Own any of these items, there should NOT be a Cost entered for them.

  11. If you are careful you might try doing them in batches (one per different condition).

Step 1: Make sure there are NO Marked comics (Find where Marked is Checked).

Step 2: Find all the Good To Very Good conditions.

Step 3a: In the Find result for that Condition, Select all the Issues and Quick Change Marked to Checked (so you can find these specific ones and change them back later).

Step 3b: In the same Find Result, Select all the Issues and Quick Change Condition to one of the standard ones (doesn't really matter as long as it matches what you are importing).

Step 3c: In the same Find Result, Select all Issues and Quick Change Qty In Stock to 0.

Step 4: With a file that ONLY contains the issues that correspond with the Condition you are working with ( Good to Very Good in this example), Import the rows.

Step 5: Find all Marked issues and verify that the Custom Field 4 values got added.

Step 6a: Assuming everything looks good, with the Find result, Quick Change Condition back to what it was originally (Good to Very Good for this example).

(You shouldn't have to change Qty In Stock as the Import file should set that to 1 (or whatever number you need).

Step 6b: If everything looks good, change all the Marked Issues to Unchecked.

Repeat steps 1 to 6b for each different condition.

Alternately, if you are good with Excel or a Database, you could export the CB 2020 database and use Excel, a Database to Merge the rows you want then Import into a new database.  This would depend on how familiar you are with doing this type of thing.

  12. Yes. I understand. Existing CB 2020 database with current data is missing Custom Field 4 data. Trying to populate with old CB 2017 data.

Good new is setting Qty in Stock to 0 in the existing 2020 database works successfully  to import the file of CB 2017 data without duplication and with the Custom Field 4 data applied. (I have tested and verified this).

Bad new is this appears to only work for the standard CB Grades (MT, NM, VF-NM, VF, FN, VG, G, FA, P (and maybe Ungraded)). (I have also tested and verified this problem).

The Import Duplicates the issues for any Custom Grades you create (i.e. Good to Very Good), or any of the 'slabbed' grades (PGX, CGC, CBSC, ets.).

This may be a bug in the Import process.

  13. I just tested this and it should work.  I would still do this on a copy of the CB 2020 database, just to be on the save side.

Export from CB 2017: Title, Issue Num, Condition, Qty in Stock and Custom Field 4.

In CB 2020, set all the Item # Qty In Stock to 0.

Import the CB 2017 file into CB 2020. Since the Qty in Stock in the CB 2020 database are 0, they will NOT cause duplicate issues and Custom Field 4 values WILL be present.

  15. Currently, you can't. Last I heard, there was a technical reason (something about size of data being transmitted).  I hope this is being looked into as it was useful before but really needed now that items are moving between Comic Books, Books, and Magazines.

  16. Using v3418 I seem to have the same problem.

    Collection Report
    Click Selected Title.
    Click Choose...
    Click All Titles.
Highlight all Titles and click OK (59, 498 chosen)
    Click List Only Wanted Items.

    Click Preview

    Nothing is found.

If I use Find->Issue Item Wanted, All the items with Wanted Checked are found.
