  1. If you're still using a dusty old ComicBase 2017 (or earlier) version of ComicBase, you'll need to upgrade soon in order to retain remote backup and mobile support.  Human Computing will be retiring some of the antiquated interfaces used by those old versions of ComicBase at the end of the month, as part their server modernization and security update.

After October 30th, those old versions of ComicBase will no longer be able to access our cloud services, including posting items for sale to Atomic Avenue, saving to the cloud, and creating mobile reports.

If you're still using a full version of ComicBase 2017 or earlier, check your Registrations page for renewals and upgrades to the current version of ComicBase; ComicBase FREE users can simply download the latest version of that program directly.

  2. If the variants have different paper, usually that also resulted in a different cover price and that would automatically qualify those variants as trackable in CB as separate items.

Personally, even if the cover price was the same, I would recommend that the variants be tracked separately if the paper stock is different.

Maybe it is worth bringing this up at this week's Livestream?

The new update fixed the problem with being able to edit the issues but the pics are still gone.  All the standard pics are there but my own additions are not.

Have you done a search on your entire hard drive for your additional scans?  (see my post above)

  4. Not too much to add to Steven's responses except to say that CB can definitely handle printing numbers above 50.  I submitted my Tolkein's Hobbit and LotR novels to CB.  All of those had print numbers above 50 and there have not been any problems with retaining them or the scans in either my database or the master database (as evidenced by Atomic Avenue's website).

Is it possible that at least some of these scans were associated with a title that underwent some sort of a change?  Titles like Secret City Saga (Jack Kirby's...) often get entered into the database with incorrect ' or ... punctuation and that later gets corrected.  Is it possible that when the title got corrected by a weekly content update, the scans for the comics that aren't in the master database got left behind in the original, incorrectly titled folder?  If that happened, then you would have some of the symptoms that you report:  your personal scans aren't in the default location any more b/c the default location has changed.

Certainly lots of FCBD issue listings have been shuffled around over time by title renamings etc.  Many of them have a very messy history in that sense.  So another reason that I am suspicious that this is related to the issue that you report.

Try searching your computer hard drive for any files with the name "3-B-70" and see if that turns up your original scan.  If it does, then that would suggest that my supposition holds some water.

@Gregory Hecht, on Windows, "control T" brings up the "Titles" pop-up.  There's also the folder icon in the upper right (between the "Previous Title" and "Next Title" triangle arrow buttons)

The "Titles" pop-up is the window that I think you are looking for.  Does it have a "Modify" button in it?  If so, then that is what you are looking for.

    Gregory,

How do you "Delete the magazine file?"  I have a number of issues listed in "Wizard: The Comics Magazine" with that title being Comic Book format.  I want to move them over the the Magazine format.  But for the life of me, I cannot figure out how to delete the title as you mentioned above.

    Thanks!

You can do this by bringing up the "Modify Title" pop-up window.  I am running CB off of a virtual Windows machine using Parallels on a Mac, and I can do this using the "control T" key command.  I am pretty sure that genuine Windows users can do this using "right-click T".   ("Modify Title" used to be in a pulldown menu, but as far as I can tell, that menu item vanished with CB 2020 or 2021, so now it is essentially a "secret hack." )

Within the pop-up window, select the title that you want to delete.  Click the "Modify" button at the bottom of the pop-up window.

You should now see a pop-up that allows you to edit the title info for the title that you selected.  Look at the bottom of that window and you should see a "Remove" button.  Click that to delete the selected title.

"With great power comes great responsibility."  Use this feature wisely as I believe that I can delete titles for which you have inventory in stock.  If you delete a genuine title that is in the CB master database, the title will be restored when you do your next content update... but content updates can't restore your deleted inventory.

  7. •  This week's update added Star Wars: These Are the Droids Your'e Looking For.  The apostrophe is in the wrong place in this title.

    •  Also added this week:  Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Novels (Pocket) and Star Trek: Voyager Novels (Pocket).  The items listed under each of these titles are in the database as tpb.  Are you *sure* that these aren't really mmpb?  It has been a long-running common error for mmpb novels to be submitted as tpb, and I suspect that this is the case here.
(This error might go away if ComicBase chose a format other than tpb as the default when creating a new book...)

    •  Harry Potter: A Magical Year is listed under Comics.  Based on the description on Amazon, it sounds more like an art book than a comic or graphic novel, so maybe this should be listed under Books?

    •  Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft: Beyond the Wall of Sleep (Caliber) was added.  Isn't this the same thing as Worlds of H.P. Lovecraft: Beyond the Wall of Sleep?  The scans for these match and show that they were published under Caliber's Tome imprint.

  8. I have been running CB within a Parallels-based virtual Windows machine for many years.  No issues.  (Although I should add that my MacBook Pro pre-dates the new M1 chip that Apple is using.  Given Parallels great track record, I wouldn't be too concerned, but I cannot provide any comments on that kind of set-up that are based on firsthand knowledge.)

  9. Just came across the entry for Marvel Masterworks: Captain America #13/HC and I see the same problem here.  I have not looked very far for more examples, but my spidey-sense tells me that there could be quite a few.

It would be nice if Mark or Pete could chime in to tell us whether they have instructed the content editors to trim down these kinds of submissions when they receive them.  If we don't hear anything in the next couple of days, maybe we should raise this issue at this week's CB Livestream.

  10. If (AND ONLY IF) the title you are moving the issues into has NO ITEMS IN STOCK, here is an easy hack for you.

Let's suppose you are moving something in your database from a comics title to a magazine title, and that you have no items in stock in the magazine title:

    1.  Delete the magazine title (the one you want to move your inventory into)

    2.  Go to the comics title (the one you want to move your inventory out of)

    3.  Change the media type for the comics title from comics to magazine.

    4.  When you do your next content update, the update process will clean up the new magazine title that now includes your inventory.

There are variations on the above that you can do (such as deleting issues with no inventory in the destination title) prior to moving your existing inventory into there.
