And then, blurring the lines (to mix a metaphor), there's Batman: Shadow of the Bat #32-33. I think it would also qualify as "contrasting", not "connecting" covers, but the divide is across Harvey Dent/Two Face's... face...
-
I think if something like this were implemented, it would probably go as another media, as in Books, Comicbooks, Magazines, Newspapers, Items, Misc., etc.
-
Is there an official designation for covers of this type to use in Comicbase, as I have come across the above examples as I'm working on better documentation of -ptych covers?
I vote for "contrasting covers".
-
Similar question/another example, Batman/Superman (2nd Series) #1/P and 1/Q.
-
There are a number of variants of the above issues that state they are connecting covers by various artists, that kinda look paired across those two titles. The variants each came out 1 cover date month apart. The kinda look connecting, but in contrasting ways rather than blended ways. Are they diptychs?
-
Improper cover scan - collage of diptych covers across Avengers (8th Series) #64/C and Avengers Forever (2nd Series) #13/C.

Almost everywhere, the program refers to the position as "Cover Inks".
When entering credits for an issue...
When looking at the credits for an issue...
In the Find Item Fields list...
Producing this search window...
And in the field selectin list for Advanced Find...
But the actual search field is...
I.[CoverInks] does not work as a search field. Which is the phrasing reinforced by being universally used everywhere else in the program.
My suggestions - either add a functioning "CoverInks" alias, or change the above references from "Cover Inks" to "Cover Inker".
-
Except I don't think this is...
If the alias was working, shouldn't I be able to equally search for I.[CoverInker] and I.[CoverInks]?
I.[CoverInker] works, I.[CoverInks] does not.
If there's supposed to be an alias in this case, it doesn't appear to be working.
If there's no alias, I politely suggest that the wording in the list reflect the actual field.

I'll submit corrections after the next update...

The internal field is I.[CoverInker]
In the find window, the entry in the Fields dropdown box in the upper right is "Cover Inks", but properly fills in "I.[CoverInker]".
In the find window, the entry in the Find tool in the near upper left is "Item Fields | Cover Inks", but properly searches "I.[CoverInker]".
This confused me at first when I tried to type an Advanced Find based on what I saw in the above lists.

Wrong cover scan. Should be a non-virgin version of #7/K.
-
I'm working on useful, searchable annotations for connected covers.
It would be really cool if you could search for these connected covers and the software could display the issues such that the combined image could be seen.
Probably annoying to implement, since while most are horizontal, some are vertical and some are in a matrix. But still, it would be cool.
-
I think this is a duplicate with # 5/C or #5/D. Item Description describes 5/C, cover scan is same as 5/D.
-
I accidentally found additional entries for both "Scott Campbell" and, I assume also the same person, "Jamal Campbell".
-
Did you know that the suggestions for searching for people's names is punctuation-specific? I didn't.
Search for Cover Artist, start typing "J S" and there is an entry for "Campbell, J Scott", which did not find the books I knew existed.
Because, they're entered under "Campbell, J. Scott", which you can only find if you start typing "J. S".
1) I think the search should ignore punctuation.
2) I assume the standard for data entry is to include the ".", yes?
incidentally, there are also entries for "Cambell, J. Scott" and "Campbel, J. Scott".
-
...sigh...
I'll rephrase my original question...
Which is the correct store name to use in ComicBase?
-
Which is the correct store name? Finding both in Item Descriptions.
-
4) Amazing Spider-Man, The #800/P, Item Description "Midtown Comics Connecting Variant Cover by Francesco Mattina". Appears to be 2nd of a diptych, having a split Spider-Man on the left edge. Cover Date 7/1/2018.
Might the 1st of diptych be Venom (4th Series) #1/V30, Item Description "Midtown Comics Connecting Virgin Variant Cover by Francesco Mattina & Will Sliney", also with a 7/1/2018 Cover Date? There is no image at the moment.

Clayton Crain has a 5-ptych of covers that have been rendered in several ways...
The 5 different background colors versions, 796-800, variants A, I, I, E and U
The 5 different background colors virgin versions, 796-800, variants B,J, J, F, V
And white background virgin versions, 796-800, variants C, ???, A-3 & Q, ???, ???
1) Is 798/A-3 a real book, or just a duplicate of 798/Q?
2) Are there/should there be entries for 797, 799 and 800 white background virgin variants?

Just noticed entries in the indexed Cover Artists lists for
- Arreola, Ken Lashley & Ulises
- Arreola, Ken Lashley and Ulises
If I went through the various people fields and corrected "& and "and" and the like (and submitting for updates), will the indexing correct itself locally if I (and others after receiving updates) rebuild indexes, or is this something that needs to be done in house?

Question, is the database structured as I guessed at above, that rather than having the spelled-out title once, as a field in the Title Table, that the Issues Table has a separate highly repetitious and open to inconsistancies Title Field?

3) The 5-ptych cover conveniently collected in the gatefold cover of Uncanny Inhumans, The (2nd Series) #1/C...
- ?????, featuring Black Bolt
- Uncanny Inhumans, The (2nd Sereis) #1/B
- Uncanny Inhumans, The (2nd Series), #2/A
- All-New Inhumans #1/B
- Karnak #1/B
3a) Is the Cover Artist "Jim Cheung" different from "Jimmy Cheung"?
-
My eye was drawn to the one-off difference as I was scrolling. Ironically, the one-off is what should be the correct capitalization, yes?
This is probably related to my earlier X-Men '92: House of XCII posting, as it is odd capitalization of title in a search grid.

5) Battle Chasers #4/A and 4/C indicate that there is a connecting 4-ptych across the back covers..., can anyone confirm this with #4/B and 4/D?
