  1. Try this in the Where of an Advanced Find:

    I.Title IN (
    SELECT A.Title
    FROM ComicIssues A
    WHERE A.QtyInStock>= 1
    GROUP BY A.Title
    )

    This is a basic query to find ALL Titles that you have at least 1 owned Issued and return ALL Issues for those Titles.

    More can be added and you can Order By whatever you like.

     

  2. One possibility is to use the Marked check box on the Title edit window and check all of your Owned Titles.
    Unfortunately, you have to do this one at a time.
    (If I find time, I may be able to come up with a Advanced Find that will get around this. Will need to test it.)
    Once that is done, you can use Advanced Find to retrieve all the issues you need.
    On the Find result grid, you can select some or all of the cells, use CTRL+C to copy the information, then CTRL+V to paste into Excel.

    From what I am reading from your post, you want ALL Issues from ALL Titles that you own at least 1 issue in. Is this correct?

    PS for selecting the information you want, it is easier if all the columns you want are close together.
    If not, you would just delete what you don't want in Excel.

  4. I will add a little more detail.
    With Series I Own selected and ONLY Missing Items checked, when you click Preview, the window just closes and nothing happens.

    With Select Series selected, a few series manually selected (doesn't matter if you own any issues in them or not), and Items in My Collection and /or Missing Items checked, when you click Preview, it works and you get what you would expect.

    Only when you select the radio button 'Series I Own' does the Missing Items NOT get displayed or process if that is the only box checked).

     

  5. For #1, you can get the current size by running 4 Updates.

    1) Create a New database.

    2) Run Update (making sure to check ALL for types).

    3) Run File Tools, Optimize Database (to endure the database is as small as it can get)

    4) Use File Explorer to find the size of the Database with all 4 types and record it some where

    Repeat Steps 2-4 but remove one type from the Update (i.e. Newspapers, then Books, then Magazines) each time you process an update.

    After the fourth Update you should have a list of  database size with

    Just Comic Books

    Comic Books and Books

    Comic Books, Books and Magazines

    All 4 Types.

    A little subtraction will get you the size needed for each Type (for example All 4 Types Size minus 3 Types (Comic Books, Books, Magazines) = Newspaper size).

    PS If not know, you can force an Update by holding down the SHIFT key while checking for Updates.

    As for #2, I am not sure if A) they want to supply the information or B) they don't have time to try to figure all that out from all the various tables/indexes. What I can tell you is the actual data tables are relative small (1/10 the size of the database?). But there are a LOT of indexes to speed up process, accommodate Psychic Typing and drop-down boxes.  There is also space needed to store all the queries needed for reports and regular finds but they should take up much space.

     

  6. I am not an expert at this but looking at all the covers that MyComicShop has for Canadian Incredible Hulk, I did find a common theme.

    All of the covers had a single Price (75¢).

    The US series has multiple prices (75¢US, 95¢Can)

    I did find a couple of exceptions but in those cases the Canadian prices were more (US Issue #295 60¢, Canadian issue #295 75¢)

    If it is true (and I am just basing this on the cover), then yours would be US newsstand versions.

    (possible the Canadian ones have a slightly different indicia but I don't have any to check.)

    Just to clarify this statement a little bit, It defaults to the lowest number in a TEXT sort order.

    If it was a NUMERIC sort order and you had covers for issues 2 - 20, the cover displayed would be 2.

    But with the TEXT sort order in CB, if you had covers for Issues 2 - 20, the cover displayed would be 10 (i.e 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16. 17. 18, 19, 2, 20 (note position of #2))

    Even stranger, if you had a set of covers for 2-9, 20-100 (skipping all the other issues that have a 1 at the beginning), the displayed cover would be 100.

    This also means, if you had -2 and 1 with covers, 1 would be the displayed cover and not -2.

    This makes no difference to your Feature suggestion. Just explaining what CB is really doing.

    There, sort of, already is. Instead of clicking the Find down-down box to the left of the Find text box, click on the Magnifying glass icon to the right. This will bring you your last Find (whether Regular or Advanced).

    The Update Options (when you manually start an Update in CB or in Sidekick) there is a check box 'Replace smaller existing pictures'.
    If you Uncheck this, it shouldn't replace any covers.
    If you Check it, it should only replace covers that are smaller in your database than the one the Update has.
    (Also, the Update only has covers for that particular Update and not the entire database.)

    However, if you manually select one or more issues, right-click and select Download covers, it will download and replace (regardless of size) the current one in the database.
    NOTE: This may or may not still be the case. There was some discussion about it and I don't recall the specifics.

    Additionally, in ComicBase Preferences, there is a check box for 'Automatically download larger pictures when viewing them'.
    This is mainly for those who chose the Quick Start Picture install (a process that only loads thumbnail size covers saving time and space. Then, when you view a cover it will automatically download and display the full size cover).
    However, it, too, had some issues about downloading and replacing any cover (regardless of size). Again, this may have been fixed but I don't use this process to be sure.

    PS to ensure this process work for the best, you should run the Rebuild Lists for Picture files to ensure all the picture size information is populated.

  10. If the same updates were applied to two different databases, they 'could' have the same Ids as they should be applied in the same order in both updates. But it is not guaranteed.

    Barcode or QRCode in your database wouldn't make a difference. Both would uniquely identify an issue in a single database or could have problems over multiple databases.

    The only way to get a 'common' unique code for an issue regardless of which database would be for HC to add a new column and store this unique identifier in the master database which would then Update everyone's databases with the same unique number.  Even then, due to human error, there could be problems with that method.

    The only real way to use barcodes with multiple databases is to print the barcode labels from both databases.

  11. CB generates the UPC for each issue and doesn't use the UPC any issue may have.

    Correct. IDs are only relevant to a single database. However, if you make a copy (or use a backup) of a database, then the Ids will be the same (at the time of the copy or backup).

    The various Unique Ids in a database are generated by that database and are not populated through the update process.

    It depends. If you add/delete issues to different databases, then you can't be sure the same Ids will be assigned to the same issues.

    But if you only add/delete issues to a single database then make copy/backups, then the ids would be the same across all databases.

    Theoretically, if you start with identical databases, and added Issues in the same order to them, then they should generate the same Id for the issues in each database.

    I would need to know more about how you work with you databases to be more specific.

  12. Use Report->Price Labels
    In the list of check-boxes, there is 'Include barcodes'

    This will include a CB generated barcode on the label.

    Not sure of the exact composition.  Here is what the scanner sees on the one I just generated:

    B4600003D

    The number is the unique issue id (even if you have mulitple issue for the same number, each will be unique).
    I think the first letter can be 'A' for Books, 'B' for Comic Books, 'C' for Magazines and 'D' for Newspapers.
    Not sure what the last letter represents.

    PS My barcode scanner read the generated barcode with no problem.
