Will Allred
I am trying to find the best way to get my data back into ComicBase. Quick summary. I last ran ComicBase 2017 Archive Edition. I let my subscription lapse, then moved to a new computer. I have my database backups, and I've re-subscribed and installed ComicBase 2020. Now, what's the best way to get my data back? Thanks. Mark J. Castaneda
Locate your original database file and load it into CB2020. The db will go through a 1-time conversion to the new cbdb format; which on average takes about 5 minutes. Once done, you should be good to go. Will Allred
When you say original database file, you mean not one of the backups? Also, does that mean that the db file will live where I open (File -> Open), or should I copy it to the default folder for the database file (and what is that path?) Also, I just downloaded the zip file from the cloud backup. I would assume unzip and place in the default folder?
Steven L. Dasinger
Yes, one of the CB 2017 databases (or backups). The most current would be the best. I believe the default database location is: C:\Users\(your-logon-id)\Documents\Human Computing\ComicBase Databases. It would be easiest if you unzipped and copied the CB 2017 Database (or backup) there.
Will Allred
Sweet! Thanks! I'll give it a go.
Steven L. Dasinger
Oh, one more thing. The Conversion to CB 2020 only READS the CB 2017 database. It does not change it (just copies information into the CB 2020 database). So if something doesn't look right, you can try again.
Will Allred
Looks like it worked all right. I had to change the name of my custom field, but it looks like it worked. Time to add the covers and media in now. Thanks again for the help. Will
