Mark J. Castaneda Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Its possible the database file is corrupt. Do you have a recently dated backup you can try to load in and update? By default, backups are stored in Documents/Human Computing/ComicBase Databases folder You can also try going into the File Menu>File Tools and running the optimize database option AND/Or Rebuild Lists option (Series info, List of owned series, and Item info options).

Mark J. Castaneda Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 you're using version 2022 or 2023?
Antonio J. Schipani Posted September 24, 2022 Author Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) I am using whatever the most updated version is prior to this new update. I update every time one becomes available. I will try using a backup database and then re-trying to update, thanks Now I do see this : "************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. The application must also be compiled with debugging enabled." but I can't find a file called .config in order to try to "debug" my files Edited September 24, 2022 by Antonio J. Schipani
Antonio J. Schipani Posted September 24, 2022 Author Posted September 24, 2022 I am using whatever the most updated version is prior to this new update. I update every time one becomes available. I just selected a "backup" file as my database, tried to update, and got the same error about "Illegal characters in path"
Scott Howell Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I have to say, I'm getting the exact same error. "Illegal characters in path." I used a backup of the database from earlier in the month and tried it on two separate computers. If you click "Continue" the Downloading Content Update window keeps up the slide show but does nothing. Closing out of the program does not close the window and you have to force close from task manager. -Scott Downloading Content Update Error (22-09-24).txt
Scott Howell Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I also just tried a database from May. I get the same error.
Antonio J. Schipani Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 (edited) Yep, Scott, same issues for me. Says "Illegal Characters in path" every time I try to update. And If I hit "continue" the cursor just spins and spins and never does anything, even after I let the screen sit for hours. I have even selected new Databases to use as primary, and the same thing occurs. I guess I will just have to call the 408-266-6883 technical help line, I don't have any other way at this point O_o Frustrating ? Edited September 26, 2022 by Antonio J. Schipani
Antonio J. Schipani Posted September 26, 2022 Author Posted September 26, 2022 OK my fellow comic book addicts, if you have this "illegal characters in path" issue, heres what I did: I have Onenote (which I hate) on my PC, and my PC was saving Databases/backups in and out of Onenote. I moved them all to the same Onenote file, regrettably, because I'd rather just not use Onenote at all. Then I downloaded ComicBase 2023 Version And then I was able to update. Best of luck, Heroes!
Bryan C. England Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 (edited) Not a computer expert by any stretch, but... I was getting the "Unhandled Exception" warnings over and over, and was unable to run the Content Update after installing ComicBase 2023. On a whim, I went to File/File Tools, and ran "Optimize Database". I then requested the Content Update yet again, and... ComicBase is now updating! No idea if it really "fixed" the issue, but the update IS now processing without any digging, file moves or other manipulations. Worth a try! Good luck all! This worked for me as well - thanks for posting!
