ComicBase 2022 Will New Features Wreck Me?
Steven L. Dasinger replied to Matthew Day's topic in Tech Support
Best thing to do is make a backup of your database then run an Update and Rebuild Lists and see what happens. When you update there are two areas to look at. In the top box are options that control when Values and/or Price are changed. If you only want the Price not to change, select the radio button for 'Update items with the Current Guide Value' (this would be the 2021 Value column) and UNCHECK the 'Update selling Prices to match Guide Value. If you don't want Value or Price to change select the radio button for 'Don't change existing item values'. In the middle of the window, is a check box for 'Lock Item Notes (don't allow update to add to existing info)' should keep you Notes from changing (or at least being added to). When CB 2022 converts your 2021 database, It will move lines with 'Cover', 'Variant' and 'Edition' to the new Item Description column. This is the one that might give you the most problem. If Note information is separated by a semi-colon ( ; ), it will limit issues. If not, extra information may move with the Cover info. (for example, 'Alex Ross Cover. Graphic Novel' would move 'Alex Ross Cover. Graphic Novel' as CB sees that as one item. 'Alex Ross Cover; Graphic Novel' would only move 'Alex Ross Cover'). -
Find for Item Field Qty in Stock, select 'is greater than or equal to' and enter 2 in the box, if you mean by duplicate having one Issue but Qty greater than 1. If you mean you have duplicated an issue for various reasons so you have 2 or more #1 rows (i.e. #1 NM, #1 VF, #1 G), then I can't think of a way in CB. Depending on your Edition of CB (Express, Pro, Archive), you could export the data and use another program (spreadsheet or database) to do this.

I don't have a perfect way to find all or only Prelim covers. They used to be a set size for Width or Height (can't recall which one). I have found them in the following ranges. But This will find other besides Prelim covers. Also there are some Prelim covers that are outside this range but it is a matter of not getting too may 'false-positive' results (i.e. getting a large haystack and trying to find the needles in it). You can try this to start with: I.[PictureWidth] BETWEEN 494 AND 516 OR I.[PictureHeight] BETWEEN 644 AND 756 And adjust the ranges as you see fit. I think it is OR but it may be an AND. NOTE: Need to make sure you run Rebuild Lists 'Pictures Files List' to ensure the picture columns are updated with correct values. PS I actually do this with a PowerShell script. Since the Rebuild takes a very long time, it is just as easy for me to run the equally long PowerShell script to generate a list of potential Prelim covers.

What version do you have installed (Help->About ComicBase will give you the information)?

Red Room #1 2nd printing UPC?
Steven L. Dasinger replied to Dennis W. Strasburg's topic in Content and Corrections
By standard UPC format, it really should be 61520081595000112 (last digit is for Printing). Since that is the correct format and that is what you can see on the issue you have in hand, I would say that is the correct one. (Also, I checked Midtown Comics which is pretty good with UPCs and they have 61520081595000112, also). -
... that is the question. I started them a long time ago (prior to on-line updates). Once Updates started, I considered stopping. But there were enough cleanup still needed (and people said they still found it useful) so I continued. Now, with CB 2022, there are two new features. 1) Automatic downloads of larger pictures (even if you don't have one). 2) Delete covers that don't have matching Item #s. Feature 1 is set by using Setup->Preferences and checking 'Automatically download larger pictures when viewing items.' NOTE: If you dislike Preliminary covers, the Automatic download WILL download Preliminary covers so they can get back in the database if you are not observant. Feature 2 is accomplished by using File->File Tools, using a hidden feature of pressing and holding the ALT key while selecting 'Manage Pictures and Movies which allows the button to 'Copy Pictures for Existing Items...' to show up. Clicking this will start a process that will compare all the cover scans with CB Item #s and only copy matching ones to a new folder. Then either rename the folder or point CB to it. NOTE: It takes a long time for this to finish. With these two features, you 'should' be able to keep your cover scans pretty well cleaned up with little effort on your part (as opposed to following the list and manually making the changes). There could still be mismatches (i.e duplicate covers or misnamed ones) that the new features can't fix. But these would not be in the Cover Scan Maintenance posts (or at least very seldom), either. So, back to the Question... Will you still find the posts useful or will they become redundant / obsolete? NOTE: This is mostly for Archive Edition owners as they have the most covers (and I believe these two new features only work for them). PS I will probably continue doing what I do each week. It is just a matter of if I record/post it.
-
If they are showing up on the Unrecognized list, then you have to manually move them. The reason is that you own (qty >=1) Items and CB will NOT delete anything you own. CB will delete/move all items you don't own. If the Title changed Type (moved from Comic Books to Books or Magazines (or any other combination), use Edit->Change Media Type to move it (or if it is just a couple of items, you could do it manually). If Items (issues) changed, it could be moved to another Title (not often), changed Item # (sometimes) or just deleted (duplicate of another item).
-
Also, in the screen shot where you type 'WEB', the drop down list of suggestions are NOT Titles (they are characters). Assuming the gray text in the box before you typed had 'Title name or barcode', try using the Find drop-down next to the box and select another item (i.e. Publisher) then select 'Title name or barcode'. (sometimes it loses what it is set for. PS The list of suggestion makes it appear that you have one of the appearances selected.

Delete or Move ALL (1.jpg - 1-B.jpg) From: Pictures\S\Scout\White Ash Season 2 To: Pictures\S\Scout\White Ash- Season 2 Delete 12.jpg From: Pictures\W\Warner Publishing Services, Inc\Cinescape From:Pictures\W\Warner Publishing Services, Inc\Cinescape (Duplicate of 24.jpg (Kirk / Spock Cover) Cinescape and Cinescape (2nd Series) where broken up into Cinescape, and Cinescape Vol 2 through 7. AA only has a couple of covers for Vol 2 through 7 and very few descriptions so it is difficult/hard/impossible to match the old issues to the new issues (there are dates but some of these are confusing. MyComicShop has many of these covers but not all match up with CB info (but a lot do). Best bet is to wait for the AA titles to get covers or downloads are available.

ZIP FILE FOR COVER ART PRO VERSION
Steven L. Dasinger replied to Luis Corraliza's topic in News & General Discussion
If you downloaded the program, you also need to download the picture file( s ). Go to ComicBase website. Select My Account->Registrations. Click the Green Arrow under download. Click the 'Other' radio button. Download the Pictures file. Then in CB use File->Install Pictures and Movies. NOTE: After installing you will still only have 1 cover per Title (actually less than that) as there are about 60,000 cover in the Pro edition but over 65,000 titles. -
If you bought a physical copy, you will need to install the Pictures (cover scans) from it). In CB use File->Install Pictures and Movies. What happened is the update (posted yesterday 29 Nov) changed the Title name from 'Wonder Woman: Black and Gold' to 'Wonder Woman Black and Gold' (note the : was removed. Since the Title was deleted it can't find it to down load covers. After the update you should be able to down load covers for the new title.
-
Where are you setting 'Prevent Update From Changing Price'? The only place I can find something like it is when you process an Update (or in SideKick). On the Update window, you have 3 options related to this: 1a) Select 'Update Items with Current Guide Value (this should be column 2021 (value). 1b) if 1a is selected, a check box for 'Update Selling Prices to Match Guide Values' (this should be column Price). 2 ) Select 'Don't Change Existing Item Values' (should be columns 2021 (value) and Price). When I just ran a test, 1a and 2 worked as expected on my computer However, 1b had a problem in that it Updates the Price even if it is unchecked. (This has been fixed in 2022 coming out on Tuesday...) =========== If this problem just happened and you have a current backup, you should be able to get the Price values from it. But if this has been a problem for a while, you may not have any backups that go back far enough to help.

The vexing covers of Jungle Fantasy: Vixens
Steven L. Dasinger replied to Gregory Hecht's topic in Content and Corrections
For #1K and #1N, there is a Kickstarter and a Kickstarter Nude covers. #1N is has the Kickstarter cover and correct Note. #1K Has no cover and the Note should be changed to Kickstarter Nude cover For #1-R and #1-V29, my database and AA has 1-V29 Notes as Ultra-Stretch cover. However, while AA has the correct Ultra-Stretch cover for 1-V29, My database has the cover as 1-R. So I, and others need to Rename 1-R.jpg to 1-V29.jpg (I also have a 1-Z-4.jpg Ultra-Stretch cover scan left over from the change to "V" versions). Additionally, Items 1/J and 1/M are duplicate entries with the same cover scan and notes. There was only one issue of 'Adult'. 1/M should be deleted as it does not list a Cover Artist (while 1/J lists the correct Cover Artist) PS: On the Kickstarter website, for Item #1, there is also a Royal Blue Foil version not in CB (or in GCD). +++++++++++++++++++++++ For #2K, 2L, and 2M: I agree. From what I can find, the terms 'Exclusive Kickstarter' and 'Kickstarter' mean the same thing and are redundant. Exclusive should probably not be used because the 'Kickstarter' version is 'exclusive from kickstart'. So: 2K Item # deleted 2M cover scan deleted (although 2M is a better scan then the correct 2L so 2L could be deleted and 2M renamed to 2L.) -

Additional Information: Back on my real computer using CB 2021 Archive Edition, I found the following: Set Items to View -> Owned Items Opened Titles window (CTRL+T) and select Titles in Stock. Went to the Next to last Title "Zero Hour: Crisis in Time" Clicking the Right Navigation Arrow resulted in Going to Titles: Zorro: The Complete Dell Pre-Code Comics Adventures (my Last Owned Title). Fanny & Romeo (I don't own any of these) Fantastic Four (Vol. 1) (the first Title after Fanny & Romeo that I own) Then it continued on to only Titles I owned. If I start with "Zero Hour: Crisis in Time" and go through the process again, after the last owned Title, it jumps to a different Title I don't own ("The Strange Talent of Luther Strode")
-
I verified the problem.Addi I downloaded CB Free v21.0.4.1907 and installed on a computer (after renaming all old Databases and uninstalling CB and Resources. Opened CB. Change qty to 1 for 2 Titles (chosen randomly but wanted them non-consecutive) "Heist" & "Helden (ideenschmiede)" Changed Items to Show to Owned Items. Starting on "Heist", clicking the Left Navigation Arrow, I just get a 'beep' as there are no other 'owned' Titles before it. Clicking on Right Navigation Arrow, it jumps to "Helden (ideenschmiede)" (skipping the un-owned titles between them). Clicking on Right Navigation Arrow again, Jumps to "Rain Like Hammers". Repeated clicking on Right Navigation Arrow, Jumps to Random Titles (one at a time) then back to the first Owned Title ("Heist"). So starting from "Heist" Clicking Right Navigation Arrow results in: Heist" & "Helden (ideenschmiede) Rain Like Hammers Plants Vs. Zombies: Better Homes and Gardens Rain Like Hammers The Four Kunoichi: Bloodlust (Random Title) Heist (first Owned Title) Heist" & "Helden (ideenschmiede) (second Owned Title) Rain Like Hammers The Goon: Once Upon A Hard Time (random Title) Heist (first Owned Title) Heist" & "Helden (ideenschmiede) (second Owned Title) Rain Like Hammers Mara of the Celts Book 2 (random Title) Rain Like Hammers NOTE: Some times it is 1, 2 or 3 Random Title after Rain Like Hammers

Ron, can you also supply the version (Help->About ComicBase)? It may help finding the problem. (By the way, I have the Archive Edition v12.0.4.1907 and it works as you are expecting. Setting Items to Show-> Owned Items and using the navigation arrows, I go from Title to Title but only ones I have Items in.)
