Mike Lee Posted May 27, 2020 Posted May 27, 2020 Today, my CGC grades were deleted from all my comics! WTF????!!!! This version has been incredibly buggy! Frankly I'm sick of it! I'm about ready to export the database and go back to Excel. And please don't tell me it's a user error or it's my computer.
Mark J. Castaneda Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 What version number are you currently using for CB2020? To check, launch ComicBase 2020 and go to the help menu>about ComicBase
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 Here's what happened. I was entering some new comics into comicbase. I don't know which version but it was working fine before yesterday. then when I tried to enter a mag, the drop down list would not show me the CGC grades that I had manually entered years ago. cgc grades for my comics that I put in before WERE showing. I just couldn't enter new comics. after closing comicbase, then rebooting, etc, the problem wasn't solved. so I upgraded to the latest version on the registrations page. that's when the problem got worse, as the cgc grades for my comics disappeared. so I just tried to go back to an earlier version of comicbase -- now v20.0.1.2808 -- and the problem exists. this picture shows the problem. my comics that are not cgc, like # -1, shows the grade. but my comics that are cgc, like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, the cgc grade has disappeared.
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 I just exported the database to excel. The cgc grades are there. they are just not showing up in the program.
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 Here are the grades I manually entered years ago. This was before your grading sets, which I don't use (and didn't even know existed until yesterday when I was trying to figure out this problem). The cgc grades I entered many years ago have disappeared.
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 So then I tried using your grading sets. but there are no check boxes to select them. this is true when I maximize the window. and it is also true for the latest version of the software on the registrations page.
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 So do you have a solution? I've been a customer for a long time, but I can't stand this new version and if there's no easy fix I'm just going to stay with Excel.
Mark J. Castaneda Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 If you're using the latest build (20.0.2.3411), does the grading sets menu look like this so you have check boxes you can select? *If you need the revised CB 2020 program installer, download/install it from your online account here: https://www.comicbase.com/mycb/Registrations.aspx
Mike Lee Posted May 28, 2020 Author Posted May 28, 2020 No - I'm using that version, and the checkboxes are not there, even when I maximize that window. My computer is a 4k screen. I'm not sure if that matters but I wanted to tell you.
Steven L. Dasinger Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 Not sure if this helps or not but I just downloaded the most recent version (v3418 for the Archive Edition) and when I display Grading Sets (on my 4k monitor), the check boxes show up.
Mark J. Castaneda Posted May 28, 2020 Posted May 28, 2020 strange.... what if you play around with your Windows display screen resolution? I wonder if its set to low/small where things are getting cut off.
Mike Lee Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 That didn't work. Thanks for your help though.
Mark J. Castaneda Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 The earlier screenshot you took of the 'grading sets' window on your computer seems to show things very crowded; causing the checkbox column on the right not showing up in the interface window... what is your monitor display resolution set to out of curiosity? Can you increase the current resolution and see if that helps?
Mike Lee Posted May 30, 2020 Author Posted May 30, 2020 I'll try that. But why would this cause my existing CGC grades to disappear? It happened all of a sudden. It was working fine, and then they all disappeared. And even if I get the checkboxes to work, will they sync up with the CGC grades I manually entered year ago?
Mark J. Castaneda Posted June 1, 2020 Posted June 1, 2020 Being able to see those checkboxes that seem to be cutoff on your end will allow you to make visible CGC grading into your current grading list. *Not everyone uses CGC grading, that's why they aren't there by default.
Tim Schulte Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 I think you have the same problem I did when I upgraded, the new version has less variation (ACE, SD , CGC , GR and so on) I added some of the "missing" variation to the list of variations and then my "missing" books showed up
Michael R. Wagner Posted June 4, 2020 Posted June 4, 2020 My experience was as Tim described, and adding the missing grades (created by me) to the list also revealed my missing books. r/ Mike
Chris Lite Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 I had the same problem after entering CGC grades for the first time in over a decade. My Grading Sets window had no checkboxes. Mark's hypothesis that the problem may be due to display resolution turned out to be correct (in my case at least). My Windows 10 Display settings were: size of text, apps, and other items: 200% Display resolution: 3200 x 1800 Display orientation: Landscape The solution that worked for me: 1) If ComicBase is open, Exit ComicBase. 2) Windows Start: Settings -> System -> Display -> Change size of text, apps, and other items: "150% (Recommended)" 3) Open ComicBase 4) ComicBase: Setup -> Grading... -> Grading Sets... -- window should now include checkboxes! After exiting ComicBase, I reset "size of text, apps, and other items" to my desired value, until such time that I ever need to add or update comics with a professional grade. Apologies for not posting this earlier; I was unable to sign on to the forum until now. Thanks to Pete for personally resolving the problem!
